Those of you who work on the 5th floor of our Vancouver Office (or visit the 5th floor) will no doubt have noticed a very impressive display to announce the launch of Garbage Month. Thanks to Amanda for arranging the “loan” of the equipment from the City of Vancouver (they’re really big, Amanda).
You may also have noticed that your personal garbage bin below your desk has temporarily been reassigned. This is a because the garbage gnomes of o-vert who would like everyone to try to be very aware of how much they are throwing away versus how much they are recycling. Every 5-6 people in the office are being asked to share one garbage can for just one week. There will be prizes and glory beyond compare for the group in the office that can do the best job of living by the credo . . . “reduce, reuse and recycle”!
We will be running various events through out the month to build awareness about garbage from where it goes to what we can do to reduce it. Among these events are a No-Waste Lunch, a screening of the short video The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard, a Stuff Trivia Contest that relates to the video, and a Save the Stuff Drive to collect your gently used clothing and housewares to give to local charities as opposed to throwing in the trash.
Remember, Oscar says, if you can eat it (or recycle it) . . . it ain’t garbage.
