Save the Stuff Drive: A Great Success!

Thanks to everyone who donated items to our Save the Stuff Drive.  This initiative wrapped up our Garbage Month activities at Omicron, and we are very proud of the result!

The women in our office gave by the truck load! Three boxes of casual clothes went directly to the women who use the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. We also donated more than 200 items to Dress for Success, who were so excited to have so many current pieces of professional attire in such great condition. They have been busier than ever this month with candidates using their services to get outfitted for interviews, so our timing couldn’t have been better.

We collected one box of children’s clothing and books which we donated to the YWCA Crabtree Corner. These items will be given directly to the children of mothers-in-need who use their services. Three boxes of men’s casual and work clothes were donated to the Gordon Neighbourhood House, which gives clothing to people in need, sells the items at a low price and uses the funds for programs to support children and youth programs, and donates anything that it does not sell to other non-profits.

With the economy in flux, it’s important to remember that there are ways to give other than monetary donations. We all have an abundance of things that some people only ever dream of, whether they be material objects or gifts and talents. Please remember that your time, efforts, gently used items, and monetary donations are all valuable ways to give to organizations like these.

Thank you for making a difference (and saving valuable items from the landfill).
