Omicron is excited to announce the arrival of our very own green taskforce: o-vert! Formalizing our efforts to be more sustainable in our internal operations and to build a stronger green culture within the firm, o-vert is the culmination of many months of planning across all sectors of the company.
This initiative is Omicron’s way of showing our commitment to reducing our corporate footprint, educating and empowering every team member and having fun doing so. For more information about o-vert’s mission and structure, please visit our About section.
The green taskforce was launched with a fun day of events on March 3, 2008. Upon arrival at the office on this morning, Omicronians were greeted by a wash of green in the 5th floor elevator lobby of our Vancouver office, created by a meandering path of lush wheatgrass on the ground with a beautiful forest of paper “leaves” suspended from the ceiling.
o-vert committee members were present to welcome staff to kick start the day in a green way; offering delicious organic granola bars and happy smiles! Individuals were encouraged to pluck a leaf from the ceiling, upon which they were to write their wish for a greener Omicron. This leaf doubled as their entry ticket to the lunchtime activities.

Come lunchtime, Omicron was abuzz with o-vert fever! The midday festivities centered around the introduction of o-vert, the driving force behind it and its planned approach and activities. The event also featured the unveiling of the Omicron tree - an 8′ x 8′ work of art produced by members of the o-vert committee. All the leaves with wishes for Omicron’s green future were attached to the tree, creating a wonderful mosaic of thoughts, ideas and aspirations.
The o-vert launch wrapped up with the introduction of the committee’s first initiative - a green scavenger hunt! This company-wide challenge required teams of 12-14 people to work together to perform tasks and find answers to questions with a green flavour, centering on Omicron’s LEED-Gold head office as well as the application of green design in our projects.
